Filming soon: iCandy

The iCandy series explores gender-reversal Action Video art through the guise of traditional working class, male-orientated iconography depicting female sexuality and further, childhood recollections of my father’s ‘girlie’ pin up calendars and centrefolds which decorated his panel beating workshop in Cairns during the 1970s and 1980s.

I plan to reconfigure these ‘pin-up’ girls in gender reversal activities, such as roadside, construction work, panel beating, pig shooting, go-kart racing whereby the underlying theme of reconstructing memory also plays with situational re-contextualisation of the image itself.

While the actors will dress in costumes to re-enact the memories I have of these kinds of images, the secondary affect by doing so raises the issue of female exploitation in the iconography of pin-up calendars brought through the gender stereotypes located in traditionally male-orientated working class mythologies.
