I Wanna be a Pop Star

Tammy Honey, I Wanna be a Popstar (2003) video still, DV as single channel DVD, colour, sound, 3mins.

This video is the second work in the Lushus Honey series and created as a deconstruction of the video projections used in the Kylie Minogue stage performance of GBI in the KylieFever2002 concert (staged in Manchester, 2002), I have explored the tensions of amateur pop desire for fame by subjecting the image itself to become generational – what we see is not a Kylie music video but rather a morphing of amateur pop desires acted out in the guise of a pop star through video art.

The work was filmed and produced in Hobart in 2003 and was screened at the Vital Signs conference at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in 2005. It will also be in the forthcoming exhibition Tammy Honey: Video Hits 2003-07 curated by Shaun Wilson.
